1. What do you think gave Alice Paul the courage and the motivation to take such a militant stance for women's rights?
Her dedication to the importance of equality and her personal stamina as well as the influence of the suffragists in England.
2. How would the battle for women's rights have been different without the NWP and Alice Paul?
It would have taken longer. The force feeding of woman suffrage prisoners embarrassed the Wilson administration.
3. What about society today might surprise Alice Paul if she were here?
The continuing battle by the Catholic Church an the Republican party against contraception.
4. Do you think that there would be as many women in our government today if the women's suffrage movements had not occurred?
No. Remember how intransigent men were about granting the vote to women and even allowing them to run for office. Now we can look forward to electing a woman president.
